Hi, I’m Shani

I’m the host of A Single Serving Podcast and the author of A Single Revolution. I’m changing the narrative around being single, because so far it’s had pretty bad PR. I’m not an advocate for singlehood. I’m an advocate for women feeling good while single—there’s a difference.

Sleeved Nap Dresses To Float About The House In This Fall

Sleeved Nap Dresses To Float About The House In This Fall

Look, it’s October, a spaghetti strap just isn’t going to cut it. During the summer that didn’t really happen, we all became enamored with Nap Dresses, or just like…super floaty nightgownesque garments not overly intended for out-of-home wear. It’s the year of comfort clothing, and Nap Dresses are right up there for us with comfy pants. The problem with the Nap Dresses we’ve seen so far is that they’re not exactly warm. A light suggestion of linen fabric is all fun and games when it’s 87 degrees outside, but thankfully it’s not that anymore, so let’s have some sleeves.

Sleeper Coal Loungewear Dress: Sleeper’s whole thing is that if you happen to fall asleep in their clothing, that was entirely the point. This off-shoulder number is beyond cute and kind of begging to be paired with a wrap shawl and a cup of coffee on a porch somewhere.

Gingham Nap Dress: If you use the word “loose” to describe the fit of your garment, chances are that I’m on board. This gingham number is giving off strong prairie vibes which I don’t mind at all. There are five shades of gingham to choose from, but this navy blue shown here is my favorite. Go forth and float, my beauties.

Free People Edie Dress: You know who’s not mad about the Nap Dress trend? Free People. They’ve been in this game a long time. The Edie Dress comes in three colors (this one’s my choice) and uses a delicate plaid fabric to give some depth to the fact that you’re wearing the sartorial equivalent of a haunted house. I love a button front and a ruffle collar, I really do.

Playa Lucila Voluminous Dress: If you want a neon Nap Dress, you are in luck my friend. This option also has the added benefit of being entirely suitable for dinner at a beachside restaurant on the next vacation we’re medically allowed to take. There are too many cute parts of this dress for me to list them all here, but the drawstring waist and size range are why I picked it.

Long Sleeve Caftan: If you’re looking for an affordable option that also kind of looks like the curtains, here you go! This dress is on major sale, and that sale is ending in 18 hours as of the moment this post was published. So if you like the fact that this one looks like you won’t freeze in it, add to cart. (It comes in more colors than I cared to count, BTW!)

Free People Pacific Maxi Dress: I love texture, rose-colored things, and garments with absolutely no closures or ties whatsoever. This dress ticks every box. It is also very sneakily pajamas that don’t look like pajamas, so if you happen to have a last-minute Zoom pop up, no one will know you’re nap-ready at all times.

Very Loose & Flowy Dress: It’s a suggestion of a dress, really. Noncommittal, structure-free, and it’s basically just an apron that happens to have a back. I love it.

Free People Making Memories Dress: This is as fancy as I’m gonna get, right here. Do we call this a gown? The fabric says no but my heart says yes, so it’s a gown. Available in black and white making MY decision entirely impossible, this dress has ruffles and slightly foofy sleeves, and honestly it’s the only thing I want to exist in ever again.

Mie.Ng Phi Phi Dress: Do you want to star in your own adaptation of a fantasy romance novel? Well my friend, you are in luck! This off-shoulder kaftan comes in three colors and I think you can actually go outdoors in it. I’m here for the sleeves, you’re here for the sleeves, we are all here for the sleeves.

Free People Stella Dress: Sometimes you just need a major plaid moment to remind yourself that the rules are there ain’t no rules. Do you know have any idea how much WRITING I could get done in a dress like this? This is the sort of dress I’d have to yell at myself to take off because it’s time to wash it. Like when you were a little kid and refused to wear anything other than your Halloween costume.

Puff Sleeve Dress: I’m telling you, sleeves are the reason to fall in love with cool-weather Nap Dresses. The poofier the better, in my book. It’s loose, it’s v-neck, it comes in ENDLESS colors (and stripes!), it is the perfect throw-on-when-you-want-to-pretend-you-got-dressed, dress.

LEMLEM Amira Dress: In my opinion there’s nothing LEMLEM ever does that isn’t ideal for running off to an island and staying there permanently. The neckline and waist are why I chose this, I love the shape of this dress and while I don’t wear a TON of prints, I’m always drawn to this brand’s use of color.

This. Robe. This isn’t a nap dress, I just really need you to know that this robe exists. I don’t know how you fantasize retirement age, but in my mind, you’re not even allowed in my house as a guest if your sleeves aren’t this big. You’ve been warned.
